PhD student (f/m/d) "Computational Methods for Preclinical Photoacoustic Imaging"

Operational area: Institute for Experimental Molecular Imaging (ExMI) -Research Group Janek Groehl-

Working hours: 65% ( 25,03 hours/week) of the full working hours in the collective agreement (currently 38,5 hours/week)
Duration/Term of employment: the position is limited for 3 years in accordance with the WissZeitVG (German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act) with option of prolongation. The successful applicant will be encouraged and supported to achieve a doctoral degree.
Start date: as soon as possible
Remuneration/Rates: EG 13 (TV-L)

Tasks:

Development of robust methods for biomarker quantification of preclinical photoacoustic data based on stochastic numerical mouse models.

  • Independent scientific research within the project
  • Publication of results in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Presentation of findings at national and international conferences
  • Co-supervision of bachelor's and master's students
  • Participation in group seminars and project meetings

Profile:

  • Completed master's degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, medical physics, applied mathematics, or a related field
  • Solid knowledge of deep learning and image processing
  • Experience with Python and common machine learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch)
  • Desirable:
    • Experience with photoacoustic or optical imaging
    • Knowledge of stochastic modelling or numerical simulation
    • Experience with medical or biomedical image segmentation
    • Experience handling preclinical or experimental imaging data
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently
  • Team player with enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Good communication skills in English spoken and written (Level C1)
  • Willingness to collaborate with experimental partners
